The pride of home ownership.  Along with this pride comes the topic of home improvements.  Which improvements are a required necessity vs the improvements that may add value to your property? And, is there a difference between “improvements” and “maintenance”?

Let’s highlight a couple examples:  Home owners and their guest spend a lot of time in the kitchen.  Is the kitchen the best return on the remodel investment to make on your home? What about updating bathrooms, or adding a splash of color to the interior or exterior paint? How’s the curb appeal of your property? Have windows been updated or are there other energy efficient considerations? Important to consider is a added sun room.   May not add necessary value to a home, but are you selling your home or realize that you would benefit and truly enjoy a sun room…  should one care about the investment return (if any) if this is part of the home that will bring happiness and pleasure to family and friends?

Same consideration for a swimming pool.  Sure a pool would be a summer time treat, but a true asset to the property? Besides the maintenance, is a pool an improvement in most Colorado locations? And, there are property insurance consideration to be making when it comes to installing a pool.
