Here’s a quick review, or maybe a harsh reminder of the hidden costs of home ownership. This list does point out the advantages of just doing the rent, and call the landlord with any property issues. The renter also does not have to worry about property taxes (giving directly to the community!), potential property appreciation, or potential year end tax deduction benefits.
Tara-Nicholle Nelson in her article has listed 7 (some rather obvious, but a gentle reminder) of not so hidden home costs for a quick review.
1. Yard maintenance.
2. Furniture and décor.
3. Cost of living.
4. Moving expenses.
5. Pest control.
(Colorado is a lucky state that does not have huge “pest” issues. Imagine living in New Orleans, and dealing with termites.)
6. Utilities.
(over rated, perhaps skip, and go off the grid?!)
